Summary

Drew and Doug return to the KVSH studio for a musically freeform edition of Classic Rock and Beyond, bouncing between eras, genres, and a few unexpected detours along the way.

The show opens with a trip down memory lane, highlighting lesser-known cuts from independent Seattle-area artists of the 2011–2018 era, featuring tracks from Sloucher, New Lungs, Creech, …And I Am the Riot, and more — a snapshot of a local scene that deserved more ears than it got.

From there, the set takes a turn into funky, off-kilter pop with Talking Heads, before launching into a microtonal voyage through spacetime courtesy of Angine de Poitrine.

The Drew and Mark Show Archives make a return with a live in-studio recording from July 2017, featuring Fort Vine performing at KVSH just a few days before that year’s Strawberry Festival. The band stuck around through the weekend and enjoyed all the festivities the island had to offer.

The back half of the show leans into classic rock and blues rock, with heavy hitters like ZZ Top, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Paul Simon, before closing things out with a pair of indie cuts from The City Hall and Luke Hogfoss, who himself was a founding member of The City Hall.

Weird News

New York — A retired art history professor asks the state to step in and arbitrate a months-long domestic dispute over the official interpretation of New York’s Coat of Arms.

North Carolina — A well-intentioned tribute to the state flower goes sideways when newly planted dogwood saplings are uprooted by a neighbor’s plothounds. The HOA steps in to mediate the fallout.

North Dakota — A substitute square dance caller lasts approximately 11 minutes before the entire dance floor stops moving altogether. He has since been asked not to return to the Burleigh County Harvest Festival.

Things That Make Doug Mad

Doug sounds off on excessive baggage fees, recounting the frustration of paying for a premium airline seat only to be nickel-and-dimed on luggage. His message is simple: if it’s premium, make it premium.

A little local, a little weird, and a little all over the map — exactly how Classic Rock and Beyond likes it. Tune in, or don’t™
